Gareth Bale retires.
I thought he had about 4 years ago to be fair.

Some on SM saying the greatest British player ever, fucking idiots.

Probably not even the greatest Welsh player.

For quite a few years he was the player that did us most damage. Was a good player when he played wide left but went to another level when he got a free role

His goal against the dippers in the CL final is one of my most favourite goals of all time.

Truly wonderful footballer on his day

Top players but can't help thinking that 176 appearances in nearly 10 years for Madrid was a bit of a waste.

Someone needs to give Cresswell a nudge.

A lot of football fans - and certainly agents etc! - don't seem to realise that players can be 'excellent' or 'very good' without being the 'best ever greatest of evermost'.

Modern football for you. Thankfully, West Ham fans tend to be genuinely hostile to such nonsense. You cynical fuckers.

Never minded him to be fair. Didn’t take himself too seriously, and if he didn’t fancy playing football he’d fuck off and play a round of golf.

His performance for the yids at Upton Park when he bagged a hat trick in a 3-2 win was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen live. Unplayable on his day.

Deserved every boo and hiss for the ludicrous barnet arrangement - a piss poor method of covering his bald napper

Re: Gareth Bale retires.
Bale was a magnificent player in his prime, which was an unfortunately short period.

But as many others have said, he's nothing like the best British footballer of all time - not even close to the likes of Charlton, Moore, Wright, Dalglish etc.

A very fine player in his pomp, though, by any measurement. Wasted on Spurs. Did play well when he first arrived in Madrid - but that trophy list does flatter him: he barely played a part in some of those campaigns. Jon Woodgate won silverware at Madrid yet barely kicked a ball.

Didn't he get booooooed by the Real Madrid fans for 90% of his time there?

Doesn't really happen to the BEST PLAYER EVER very often, does it?

I can forgive him downing tools as part of that was his second stint at Tottenham.....

Re: Gareth Bale retires.
Good luck to Bale he has had a very lucrative career being well guided by his agents who also garnered a fortune from their charge.

I reckon he will not miss football at all.

Re: Gareth Bale retires.
He was a fantastic player. He was still outstanding for the first few seasons at Real, but was treated like shit by the club and fans. Then it looked like he decided to down tools and fuck about for the rest of his career, while raking it in.

Probably best British player of the 2010s decade imo

To be fair, Ian Rush is indeed a big-nosed, scouse cunt, but other than that appears to be a complete gentleman.

Ryan Giggs not so much.

To be fair, rush has a big nose and Giggs slaps his Mrs about, isn't it...

Gareth Bale retires with 18 major trophies – Harry Kane has none

zebthecat 12:44 Tue Jan 10
Re: Gareth Bale retires.
While Ryan Giggs was a great Welsh player he was not a great player for Wales as he regularly pulled out of internationals due to apparent injury only to recover miraculously in time for Man Utd's subsequent matches.

Re: Gareth Bale retires.
Has been a great player, no doubt about that, and IS the most successful British export by far in terms of trophies won, but agree it's a stretch to say the best British player, but his agent is a vile cunt and must have made a fortune from Bale. Bale has always been pretty unlikeable too, or distant at best.

Re: Gareth Bale retires.
Well I would put him above Rooney, Gascoigne, Stevie G and possibly Giggs. Russ.? But as Far posted at the start John Charles was the greatest Welshman ever to lace up a pair of football boots.

Re: Gareth Bale retires.
In his prime he was quite a magnificent footballer... and it was good to see in latter years that country took preference to club... so yeah he probably get mentioned in the list of top British players ever... the best?? Well he's up there...
